5Hester Klopper is a co-investigator and the South African Country Program Director of the Teasdale Corti/ CIHR/ IRDC international collaborative program titled “Strengthening Nurses’ Capacity in HIV Policy Development in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean”, which incorporates five partnering and collaborating countries namely Canada, Kenya, Jamaica, Uganda and South Africa.  This mixed-methods research programme aims to situate nurses in leadership roles to improve equity, quality and efficiency of health systems for HIV prevention and AIDS care by:  describing and understanding the issues that affect the role of nurses in HIV prevention and AIDS care for individuals and families living with HIV and AIDS; understanding how the HIV and AIDS epidemic affects the nursing workforce and the provision of HIV and AIDS nursing services; and examining how leadership hubs influence nurses’ engagement in policy development and collaborative action to address HIV and AIDS.  (http://www.idrc.ca)
