The group stage of the Football League Trophy kicks off next week with Salford City taking on Port Vale in one of Tuesday's twelve fixtures.
Salford City are still waiting for their first win of the 2024-25 campaign. The hosts opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat at home against Port Vale over a week ago and before suffered the same fate against Doncaster in the EFL Cup three days later. They took a point and a clean sheet against Bradford City in their last outing and will be looking for more of the same on Tuesday.
Port Vale meanwhile have already tasted victory this season. They opened their campaign with a 2-0 win over Salford City in Football League Two and three days later travelled to Barrow full of confidence. Things didn't go to plan however, as they suffered a 3-2 defeat. Darren Moore's side extended their unbeaten league run with a goalless draw against Tanmere last time out and will be hoping to keep things tight at the back on Tuesday.
Salford City vs Port Vale Betting Tips: Under 2.5 goals
Salford City's biggest weakness so far this season has been their goalscoring record. The hosts are yet to score in any competition this season and none of their three encounters produced more than two goals.
Port Vale conceded three goals in their EFL Cup first-round tie against Barrow, but the visitors have been very solid defensively in the league, keeping clean sheets in both of their encounters. There were no more than two goals scored in either game.
The meetings between Salford City and Port Vale are not also known for being entertaining. Each of the last three meetings between the two sides has ended with less than 2.5 goals scored and I fancy a similar result on Tuesday.
- Best Tip: Under 2.5 goals

Salford City team news
Head coach Karl Robinson is unlikely to make any major changes to the Salford City side that took the field in their goalless draw at Bradford last time out.
As such, new signing Cole Stockton will continue to lead the line and could be joined in the final third by Kelly N'Mai and Junior Luamba, while Matty Lund is pushing for a start in midfield.

Port Vale team news
Mitch Clark has been sidelined since last October with a cartilage injury and the right-back won't be available on Tuesday.
Head coach Darren Moore's 4-4-2 formation worked well against Tranmere in the league last time out, with the side keeping a clean sheet and the 50-year-old is likely to stick with it.
