Aleksejevs v Abdulaev. IBO European title fight preview
The October triple-header wrapped up in a classic MotoGP style, as the Thailand Grand Prix helped Bagnaia to save his title lead after two difficult rounds. Record-breaking margins were decisive in Thailand as Martin did everything to narrow the Championship gap to 13 points, so we’re sure that there’s going to be the highest odds offered by the time of the Malaysian Tissot Sprint.
So let’s do a little MightyTips rewind of what happened at Buriram.
After all the weather surprises that followed the paddock from MotoGP Japan 2023 it was a huge question whether the Thai GP would go as planned. Before the QP tensions were high because everyone was waiting for answers to a still-open question: “Pecco or Martinator?”
Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) showed his intentions very clearly by taking the pole by storm with the new lap record of 1:29.287. Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing Team), who continues to impress fans, grabbed the 2nd spot in the front row, and Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) snatched the final front-row spot and looked to be a contender ahead of the racing action.
Red sectors were flying in as the chequered flag approached. Hot laps were delivered by Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), Raul Fernandez (CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team), and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Gresini Racing MotoGP), with the Marquez brothers also displaying their strength.
Initially, it appeared that Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) and Di Giannantonio would secure advancement. Still, a last-minute stunner from Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP) saw him claim the top spot in the session. This move relegated his brother to second place and his teammate out of a Q2 position.
After the cancellation of the MotoGP Australia 2023 Tissot Sprint, Martin was hungry for wins, as were his fans who don't miss an opportunity to bet on MotoGP. And it was a masterclass for the rivals, as the Spaniard closed the gap down from 27 to just 18 points by a perfect win. But the real duels were taking place behind his back, as Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) engaged in a thrilling fight with Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Racing Team) and managed to narrow the gap to the race winner to less than a second.
Notably, another excitement unfolded just behind that battle as Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) executed a spectacular last-corner manoeuvre, diving past Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) to secure fourth place. Championship Leader Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) might have missed the podium delight, but still got some points in the 7th place, which brought a fair bit of excitement to the best in-play bookies because of the drastically changed situation.
By the start of the main race, there was quite a list of trusted betting sites who brought some good odds for the main rivals' results, but after surprises of MotoGP Indonesia 2023 and Phillip Island, Bagnaia got a little bit more faith from the biggest mobile sportsbooks.
But still, it was Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) who emerged victorious in a thrilling, no-holds-barred battle for the win at Buriram against Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team). Martin claimed the top spot, while Binder, who crossed the line in second place, exceeded track limits on the final lap, resulting in Bagnaia securing those valuable 20 points. At this point Bagnaia still held the highest odds at bookmakers, despite his Tissot Sprint result. It was also the fourth closest premier-class podium finish in history, with a mere 0.253 seconds separating the top contenders.
The OR Thailand Grand Prix signals the conclusion of an exciting triple-header, during which the championship title has been constantly changing hands over the past three rounds. The MotoGP contenders will now have a one-week break before the competition resumes with the final stage consisting of three consecutive races that will determine the 2023 MotoGP? World Championship. The action is scheduled to commence at the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia from November 10th to 12th at the Sepang International Circuit.
